Customer Service Training

If you're just starting out as a customer service rep, or looking to improve your customer service skills, there are many companies that can provide training for you or your employees:

  • Telephone Doctor - Founded by Nancy Friedman - offers on-site training, videos, a free newsletter, and more
  • ProEdge Skills - Customer service seminars, subscribe to their ezine, read articles
  • Impact Learning - Training for call center representatives, supervisors, and technical support; Also offers email training
  • Enterprise Media - Offers customer service training videos - some with a twist of humor

For me, good training includes plenty of role playing and reading.  You can't really learn anything until you actually do it...

The Pillars of Your Success
Mike Wagner of Own Your Brand posted an article by Steve Vaught titled “Do You Invest in Your Buds?” where Steve says:

“Organizations invest in a variety of places. Too often they under invest in their people. Big mistake. Even the most efficient machine or killer advertisement can’t give you the return of a workforce who owns the brand, loves their jobs, and will endorse your company and its goods/services to anyone who will listen.”pillars.jpg

I often preach here how important it is to invest in your customers.  However, it is just as important to invest in your employees as well.  I have a whole category here called “Employees” that is dedicated to helping you connect with your employees.  Your employees are the pillars that hold up your organization.  Believe it or not, but your employees are the ones that will determine if your business succeeds or not.  If those pillars are not stable, it won’t be long before the organization comes crashing down!

How are you investing in your people?  Your ideas are welcome!

The True Cost of Properly Training Your Employees
Yes, customer service training can be quite costly if you have an outside firm help you.  It is good to have a firm help you if you do have the budget and many employees to train.  However, if you’re a smaller company, I believe it doesn’t have to be costly to turn your employees into company evangelists.

Sure, you’re probably thinking, but it takes time to train people and that could be time you could be making in sales, right?  That’s short-term thinking.  Think about how much more money you could make in the long-run if you trained your employees properly on how to take care of the customers and empowering them to take ownership of the business.

When you show that you care enough to invest the time to make your employees successful, your employees will help you to become successful!
