I'm still amazed when I hear people say that the web is for "tech" people. I'm amazed even more when people resist the idea of using social networking to attract customers to their website. If you're one of these skeptics or you're still a newbie when it comes to internet marketing, perhaps you'll learn something from Texas oil baron, T. Boone Pickens.
Pickens is on a mission to get the word out about The Pickens Plan. It's a plan to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil by developing wind power - something that is abundant in the Mid-West. That's just part of the plan, but in essence it's a plan to harness all the different types of energy that America has at its disposal.
Here's a video of Pickens outlining the details of the plan...
A press conference took place today to announce The Pickens Plan, however, instead of using the traditional channels of communication like TV and newspapers to spread the word, Pickens is all over the social networking websites hoping to create communities of supporters. And although the regular news articles will get buried deep in the archives, The Pickens Plan will continue to spread because of all the online social networking communities. Perhaps Pickens hired someone to manage all his online profiles, but either way he's able to connect in some way with all of his supporters.
What about you? How are you connecting with your customers online? Do you have an online marketing plan to help spread the word about your business?
