It's been all over the news:
American Airlines cancels thousands of flights after discovering that they have to work on the wiring of wheel wells on their MD-80 jets.
Creating havoc could be a slightly melodramatic headline, but then, who are we kidding? When people have to be somewhere at a certain time, it does create a little bit of stress. Given all the negative news surrounding the airline industry lately, perhaps "creating havoc" may have been the right phrase to use.
Remember the havoc AA created last year? 
All negativity aside, let's delve into the topic of quality control and time management. American Airlines was smart to take those planes off the runway and have them serviced, but what I don't understand is that the company had 1 1/2 years to fix this problem.
According to this Associated Press article, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an order to the airlines to fix improperly bundled wires in the backup power systems. Until now American Airlines hadn't fixed these wires properly? Did procrastination play a part in this or did AA think that the FAA wouldn't pay attention? Either way, AA is paying a hefty price.
