Being that it's Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the U.S., I reflect on all the ways that Dr. King has served the people who needed his help. If ever you need an example of how one person was able to make a huge impact in the world, think about Dr. King.
Have you ever asked the questions, "How can I serve? How can I make a difference?" I'm pretty sure Martin Luther King asked these questions.
Many of us do ask these questions all the while thinking that our job is to only see how much money we can make and how many things we can accumulate. However, if more people started asking these questions, perhaps they would discover more meaning in what they do and there would be less unhappy people in positions of service.
What I've come to realize is that our whole life is about service. We grow up with our friends and we help them out whenever we can. If our family needs help, we give it to them. We go to school so we could learn a trade which essentially is tied in to providing a product or service for other people. We are always doing something of service.
If you ever find yourself asking yourself, "What's the meaning of life?", you should probably first ask, "How can I serve?" Once you ask this question, trust me, the answer will come. You'll eventually find that meaning as you continue to serve.
And remember to think of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a Day of Service, not just another day off ;)
