In a business world plagued with the "sameness" bug, I think one of the most important things you can do to make sure your customers remember you is to provide a unique experience. In the case of restaurants this means having unique fixtures and decor that are comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
Above all else, creating a total experience for your customers means having a staff who is attentive and pays close attention to details. You can have a fancy-looking restaurant, but if the servers are stuck up and the service is poor, then what's the point?
