American Idol has forged into the 7th season, but I missed the first episode last night. (Here's a review of the show.) I have friends who rave about the show and schedule everything around the 2 hours it airs. As my friend told me, "I had a bad day today, but hey, American Idol comes on tonight!" I admit that I even invested a great deal of time watching it last season. The reality show/singing contest has fans from around the globe and has been a growing phenomenon ever since it first aired. Just do a blog search for "American Idol Season 7" and you get over 100,000 blogs that mention it. Over 33 million people tuned in to watch it.
One of the reasons why American Idol is such a great hit is that the contestants are dedicated to putting on a great performance - just like any dedicated employee attracts loyal customers. They put in 100% effort to deliver a perfect performance. How many of your employees are like that?
Can you just imagine if your business had as many customer evangelists as American Idol does? What can you do to create loyal customers?
Here are more business lessons to learn from American Idol.

You are right Maria! Giving great customer service is like putting on a show - and when the team is dedicated to putting on a great show the audience will buy.
Another reason American Idol is a hit - they involve their "customers." Fans can vote, bring signs, have cool names for their favorite singer - they feel like they are part of something big.
So, I guess the other question to ask is how do you make your customers feel as though by doing business with you, they are part of something bigger?
Great post!
