A: A long line full of hungry people forms!
After gift shopping today I went to McDonald's to grab a little snack. There was only one cashier with about 3-4 people in line which is fine in any normal situation, but it was obvious that this cashier was brand new to the team. She had to ask the manager what to do after every press of the button. She'd press the button, look over to her trainer who was working the drive-thru, and then turn to the customer and say, "I'm sorry."
I kept staring at the manager, a woman who looked like she has spent way too many years flipping burgers. In the ten minutes that I stood in line waiting for the cashier to take my order, I didn't see one little smile come from the manager. Overworked. Underpaid.
Lesson for the day: Never throw a new hire out by themselves! If you're going to have a new hire on the floor, always have someone else there for backup...
Well, at least David Letterman wasn't helping me...
