Customer Service the LeBron James Way

We're halfway through the NBA basketball season and I'm just now really getting into it.  I just watched an exciting game between the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets that went into double overtime. (Denver won - yes!)  However, one person I haven't seen play this year is LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

lebron-james.jpgWarren Buffett was quoted by Fortune Magazine as saying this about James:  "...if he were an IPO, I'd buy in..."  Maverick Carter, one of James' business partners, says this about expanding James' personal brand:

"...letting the world know that he's a very simple human, a regular guy who laughs and lies to have fun and enjoys being with his family and friends.  When you're looking for longetivity, the world has to know who you are for real."

To connect with customers I think it's important for people to know that you're not just some business person in a suit - you're also a person who cares about people.   Not only are you selling the products or services that your company offers, you're essentially "selling" yourself as a person as well.

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sold on LeBron James as a person.  If you've ever watched him on the court, he's selfless and always pushes his teammates to do better.  He's the type of person I would want on my payroll helping my customers!  He plays hard and never disappoints his fans.  He may only be a young 23-years-old, but he has the maturity of a 43-year-old ;)

LeBron James is a model example of an effective personal brand. The experience on and off the court is something you can count on as a role model. His dedication to his values is unmistakable. Transferable to all aspects of his life. James' greatest asset is the vision of who he wants to be. Nice example you set, Maria!

Guys:

Are you kidding. Lebron James is a self absored individual who has forgotten where he came from. I know of numerous stories of persons in the service industry who have been treated like dirt by "The King". What kind of King bring a whole group of obnoxious entitled people to a fine eating establishment runs the staff ragged and leaves nothing or close to nothing as a tip. This has happened in Cleveland and Akron and on numerous occasions. It is a good think he is a skilled athlete because if he was not he would probaly be doing what his mentor did, serve time in jail. Good Luck Leboob.
