Here's a great customer service story passed on to me from Phil Gerbyshak. I think it exemplifies what outstanding customer service means.
Have you ever helped a customer in need? Even if they weren't staying at your hotel or weren't buying from you that day?
When you think of customers as friends, there's no questioning what you should do if they call you up needing some help - any type of help. I can guarantee that they'll remember you the next time they need your products or services.
I'll agree with The Toad Stool and say that your customer is not your enemy.
What have you done today to show your customer what a good friend you are?

I remember when I was working at Barnes & Noble I was on my way out the door when a frequent customer asked if I would help him by wrapping a book (there was a wrapping table but no one was there and he was in a rush). Instead of just walking out and leaving him hanging, I wrapped his books and I could tell how relieved and happy he was. He also tipped me $10 against my will (I mean he literally stuffed the money in my purse when I declined and tried to walk away). That kind of customer service that had made him a regular customer in the first place.
