I had breakfast with my stepmother and her best friend this morning and they were telling me about their boss who doesn't give them any respect at all. He talks down to them and yells at them in front of customers. In essence, this boss is abusing his power and just doesn't understand what a true leader is.
I was telling them that respect needs to go both ways. Just because he's the boss, doesn't mean he deserves respect. He needs to earn that respect by being a good role model and treating the associates as if they are equal. Having that title doesn't mean anything except that perhaps he is more knowledgeable about what needs to be done.
If you think your leader is a dud, here are some gift ideas for that bad boss...
On a serious note though, I would sit down with a bad boss and just be honest about how you feel. It may be hard to do, but in the end you'll feel so much better to get it off your chest! You don't need all that negative energy affecting how you relate with customers...
Despite all that though, there are many life lessons to be learned from bad bosses...
