
However, I have mentioned before that I don't think loyalty cards work all that much and until now I still believe that most companies aren't doing enough to keep customers loyal. I'd much rather have great customer service than a loyalty card any day - even if that means I don't get a discount!

Maria, I have the discount card at B & N and the loyalty card at Borders. I only buy at Borders when I have a coupon. I buy more often at B & N because I can always get the discount.
I've found customer service to be the same at both in my market.
Now, what's cool about Amazon is that the other day I remembered the name of a book I first read as a 12-year old. I went to Amazon.com and found a used copy in seconds. I could never have done that in a bricks and mortar store.
