What does it feel like to work for a mean boss? I've never really worked for anybody who was downright mean, but if any of you have seen that movie, The Devil Wears Prada, you know that working for someone who is very demanding can wreak havoc on your nerves. I couldn't even imagine going around all day being scared of the boss. Doesn't make for a healthy work environment, does it? I'm pretty sure it affects your mental state and how you deal with customers.
So, how do you work with a mean boss? An article at Essortment says:
"...Try to be compassionate to your boss for the occasional blow-up – it happens to the best of us, and the last thing that you should do is take it to heart. Part of being a mature adult who is a member of the workforce is accepting people for their flaws – as you would want people to do for you. Nobody is perfect – not you, and not your boss, and not your co-workers..."
I'm sure if we dug deeper into the life of Leona Helmsley, we would find a woman who probably had to deal with quite a bit of anguish. Perhaps she never had help from people or guidance on how to face life's troubles. She certainly has made up for her reputation by giving away millions of dollars to those in need.
Although Helmsley had this sour reputation, I don't believe it affected the service at her hotels too much. I did a search for reviews on The New York Helmsley hotel and came across this page.
Have you ever stayed at one of the Helmsley's hotels? How would you rate the service?
