For businesses in downtown San Diego, well, there's no doubt that traffic will quadruple. Let's hope that the owners/managers have prepared for all the business they will be doing this weekend!
When I was a manager for Wet Seal, the one thing I did to prepare for a busy weekend was to make sure I had scheduled people for on-call shifts. You can look at last year's sales and guesstimate how busy it will be this year, but you just never really know how busy it will be. You want to make sure the customers are taken care of in a timely manner, so it's important to make sure you are fully staffed. I recommend having people on-call just in case it's busier than anticipated.
Another advantage of putting people on-call is that during events like Comic-Con, people are more likely to "call in sick" so that they too, can enjoy in the festivities!
What do you do to prepare for high traffic times?
