For the past month my little getaway from blogging and working on
my business is to watch the NBA Finals.
Warning: if you don’t like sports talk, then stop reading! However, I will tie this in with customer service if you’d like to stick around ;)
I can’t get over LeBron James’ performance the other night during Game 5 against the Detroit Pistons! The guy is absolutely amazing! Memories of Michael Jordan during his peak performances come to mind…
Below is a
video of Lebron James talking about what motivates him - being a leader and being someone who will “take care of business”.
Every team needs a leader - someone who keeps the team focused on the goal…someone who will perform and deliver when there is a great deal at stake. Being a leader means working just as hard, if not harder, than the other team members - if that’s what it will take to win. All too often we see managers and *cough* CEOs just cruising along in their luxury cars when they should be out there sweating just like the rest of the team…
This weekend I’d like you to reflect on what kind of leader you are…Are you the LeBron James of your team?
This is a very interesting video, and a very interesting contrast to Michael Jordan. Jordan was all about him being better, and thus he raised the level of his team. Lebron seems to genuinely want to raise his teammates games and take it to them.
For me, it reminds me that in customer service and in life, there are 2 ways to be great: Be a superstar that doesn't complain and forces everyone through sheer will and personal greatness to rise to your level, or to lift your teammates up first, get them involved, and then take over when needed. Seems like Lebron has coaching potential written all over him. I personally like the "Lebron way" over the "Jordan rules.
