Let’s pretend that you’re retiring and having a party to celebrate the accomplishments of your business. What would you say? Did you achieve the vision that you had for the company? What were the most important aspects of your business? Did you help others?
Many of us go into business for the money - failing to realize that when you go into business, it’s to help people and not to make money. That’s why many businesses don’t do well. We can blame advertising, marketing, bad decisions with operations, etc., but when it’s all said and done - it boils down to how much of a difference you’ve made in people’s lives. It’s not about the plus or minus on the balance sheets, so stop focusing on that!
Don't get me wrong, though. Money is a necessity, but it's only a means to an end. It's only when you've found your purpose and start helping people that the money will start pouring in...
When people talk about your business, they talk about their experiences and the people who helped them. Unless they’re a stock holder, they could really care less about how much your sales have increased or decreased in the past year. People remember your kindness…your generosity…
When your business is gone, how would you like it to be remembered?
