In my office we use both interchangeably. Personally, I don't see a problem using one name over another. What I feel is most important is the attitude of the employee towards the customer. If your employees catch the customer service vision better by calling them "customers" or "guests" or even something else, awesome. Whatever you use, don't let it become a trite phrase. Its attitude over platitude.
