Yesterday I talked about how Macy’s wants to do more TV and internet advertising…not the greatest strategic move because like I said, everyone already knows about Macy’s. I don’t even pay attention to Macy’s ads anymore. Don’t we know that they have a sale every weekend?
Well, incidentally, Mary Schmidt tells us that the way to bore people is to advertise! Advertising is for new companies or companies who have fallen off the face of the earth and need to reestablish their brand - like Liz Claiborne. Have you ever seen a Nordstrom commercial? Nordstrom runs some newspaper ads - nothing too fancy - and the only time you’ll see a Nordstrom commercial is when they have their Anniversary sale. The company thrives from word-of-mouth marketing.
Is your company wasting money on advertising?
