That’s what Shaun Smith over at The Perfect Customer Experience points out in his post, Best Practices Can Be Dangerous to Customer Experience. The reason that companies such as Amazon.com and Virgin, to name just two, are the leaders in their industry is because they dare to be different. Instead of focusing on the numbers like many big companies do, they chose to create an experience that their customers would never forget.
At your next company meeting, why not take some time to brainstorm a way to differentiate your brand from others? Sit down, write a list of all your competitors, figure out what they’re unique proposition is - if any - and then do something completely different.
The Brand Builder Blog shares some thoughts on this subject:
“Set the bar as high as possible to keep your competitors at bay and become the brand of choice for your category. Work hard, don't cut corners, and build on your successes.”
