How To Sell a Fountain Pen
This morning I was checking my Sitemeter stats and noticed an interesting search phrase that someone used to find this blog:

“how do you sell a fountain pen”

Of course, there are many ways you can sell a fountain pen…There are many ways you can sell anything - eBay, direct mail, knock door-to-door, etc. However way you do it, having a successful pen business will depend on two things:

1) How much value you create for your customer
2) How you treat your customer after the initial sale
Incidentally, I received a large envelope the other day from a company that was selling pens.  They’re one of those businesses that imprints your business name on them so you can give them away to customers at trade shows or what not.

The likelihood of me buying pens from this company is high because they created value by sending me a sample of what the pen would look like.  There are no guessing games and wondering whether or not the pen will look good.  Sending the sample saves me some time - and that’s pretty valuable to me!

Now, how the company treats me after I make that first purchase will determine whether or not I buy from them again.  This is where many companies fail.  Do not make this mistake!  Ask permission to keep in contact with your customers and do just that!  Thank them for their business, give them special sales, send them a birthday card, ask them how their dog is doing…just let them know that you appreciate and value their business!

Maria, I enjoyed your fountain pen comments. If you have a chance, check out an article I wrote posted on my website, www.snowassociates.com. Click on Articles and read the conclusion of the article; True Professionalism - the Core of Service Excellence.

You have a great blog!

This is a classic sales interview question -- how does the person create value, do they sellon price, are tey an assumptive closer Probabaly best used for jr. sales positions. I often use this question to see if they get that there are cross/up-sell opportunities. You've sold a pen, do you also sell ink (now and again in six months), a case, etc.

Fountain pens are not a necessity, its a kind of jewellery item now, so more beautiful it looks, more it sells.
Once you write from this pen, its possible to erease it also by the ink remover that i have invented. To know you you can make it (its simple n cheap) read this DIY article :

Enjoy !

I'd go for eBay cuz of its simplicity and availability.
But there are pitfalls to avoid scammers who make selling a nightmare.
First, a detailed explanation and clean pictures are needed. These attract good byers.
Second, I vote for minimum positive feedback score as a pre-requisite for bidding.
Third, a good title is a must. Model, condidion, etc. should be specified.
Fourth, seller's feedback should be public.
Just my 2c..
