Open mouth, insert foot. That’s what Don Imus has done on more than one occasion - so I’ve heard. (Personally, I've never heard of him until this past week). Imus has gained notoriety as the one who has called black women “nappy headed hos” and he simply just doesn’t get it.
Unless you’ve been living on Pluto for the past several hundred years, you know the history of segregation and the plight of African people in the U.S. So, given the context of the situation - white man degrades black women - it’s understandable that people are in an uproar.
Some may pull out the “freedom of speech” card on this one. Others argue that rappers can say all they want about women, but if a white man says something similar then it‘s wrong. However, it shouldn’t matter who you are - putting down another person is not acceptable. Period.
If you take this into a customer service scenario…I would be a little upset if I went into a restaurant, ordered my steak with rice, then overheard the waiter say to another waiter, “Look at that rice-eating ho”. No matter which way you look at it, it’s just wrong. However, I’m learning not to let someone’s negativity affect my own happiness and just move on with life.
Sure, people are free to say what they want to say, but why you choose to say that in the first place? And we still wonder why customer service is dead. Look at all the negative energy floating around in the cosmos!
Below is a video of Don Imus apologizing for the remarks he made…
