For those of you with Blackberries, you may have been a victim of the blackout last week. However, this isn't the first time that the Blackberry network has gone down. Do customers know what went wrong?
According to BusinessWeek, the company wasn't very forthcoming about offering any information during the whole event. As a person reading this who was interested in purchasing a Blackberry, well, it’s now an issue of trust and reliability.
I understand that technology is not perfect and that there will be flaws in the system, but to keep hush-hush about it only makes me wonder what other secrets you are keeping…
Read RIM's explanation for why the outage occurred...It's all mumbo jumbo to me. (Engineers are really from another planet). Maybe a tech person can clue me in?

I am not a super techy, but this is how I understand it:
They tried to implement technology to make their systems faster. Their procedure that they usually use for testing feature/upgrade rollouts didn't work. The mess up caused a whole bunch of other systems (notably, the ones that run the system on a day to day basis) to stop working. Then, the backup procedures they usually use did not work. Because it was down for a long time, a whole bunch of messages had yet to be sent. RIM then had to process all of those.
