"Would You Like To Rent a Plane With That Iced Mocha?"
I’m standing in line at Starbucks.  It’s a long line with three people in front of me and about ten people in back of me.  I notice the author of a famous customer service book standing about three people behind me (can’t remember the name of the book).  The cashier who is taking orders is also the person making the drinks.  As a matter of fact, she’s the only person working!  Things%20that%20make%20you%20go.gif

What is going on...I think to myself.  Then I start to think of a way to spark up a conversation with the author standing behind me.  Oh, I guess I could say, “Aren’t you the author of...???”  But I couldn’t remember the name of the book!

Well, finally it’s time for me to put in my drink order....I order my regular - a tall iced mocha, easy on the chocolate.

“Would you like to rent a plane with that iced mocha?” asked the cashier.

????

I wake up.

People, I need your help.  Either I’ve been blogging about customer service for too long or I need to stay away from Starbucks for awhile or Starbucks has plans to start renting planes to customers.  Any dream interpreters in the house?

I've heard of Starbucks movie into music, but not jets and other forms of transportation. I think you need to move to a new coffee shop Maria. Or switch to decaf :)

The stressed-out cashier was trying to make some humor in the midst of an obviously difficult situation. The question reflected the fact that, from the cashier's perspective, the line was so long and the situation so slow that you would obviously be missing your flight. Thus, "would you like to rent a plane?"

I can only think of two things:

1. Was it a particularly cold day? Maybe the cashier was asking if wanted to go somewhere warm to drink your iced mocha.

2. Maybe it wasn't 'plane' but rather 'plain'. Does Starbucks sell anything that rhymes with "renta"? (I can't think of anything). But maybe the cashier was trying to up-sale a "renta" plain?

It's a Monday and my dream interpretation skills are spent. Good luck!
