Do You Have a Chief Customer Officer?

Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD) just hired their first-ever “Chief Customer Officer”.  John Walden joins the company after spending the last eight years at Best Buy.  He will oversee marketing, services, and the company’s direct-commerce business.
I think we’ll begin to see more companies creating this position of chief customerchief%20customer%20officer.jpg officer within the hierarchy of executive roles.  I came across ten questions by Jeanne Bliss, author of Chief Customer Officer:  Getting Past Lip Service to Passionate Action, that will help you decide whether or not you are ready to appoint someone to this position.  The #1 question is a question every CEO should ask:

Is there someone in your company who clarifies what is to be accomplished with customers?

Again, if the CEO isn’t going to do it, who will?

Very encouraging news & it will be a new title I have to strive for!

I've got the book ordered. I can't wait.

Regards,

Glenn

Damon,

I think every company should have that position and that they get paid more than the CEO ;)

Glenn,

I anticipate your review of it!

"I think every company should have that position and that they get paid more than the CEO ;)"

I agree with you on that one!

Great, another job duty to add to the hundreds of hats I already wear.

A Chief Customer Officer! I say yes to this. The question you posed, Maria, is an eye opener. It's true. Someone should be there to clarify what is to be accomplished with customers. :) Will look for the book, too.

Jim,

I don't think we should look at it as a "job duty", but think of it as something we've already been doing - in essence, you've been taking care of customers all along, right? Adding a title to it just gives it more importance...

Meikah,

Someone needs to be thinking about the customers all the time!!
