This is the last line of an article that Bob Furniss, President of Touchpoint Associates wrote. Jim Berkowitz shares a snippet of this article, but it is this last line that resonates and echoes through my mind.
We’re all human beings and humans are social creatures. I’ve always been fascinated with why people act the way they do - perhaps the reason why I took psychology in college. We thrive on being able to connect with others. Prime example of this is MySpace.com. Millions of people are on MySpace now connecting with each other, meeting new people, and building relationships.
So what happened to treating customers like a friend? When we’re on MySpace or chatting on some social network, we’re nice to these people, right? However, for some people their personal life is completely different from their business life - but does it really have to be? Why not create a business where your customers are your friends? And why not treat your potential customers as a dear friend?

Dear Lakeside:
I recently purchased a 7' xmas tree, fiber optic angel n timer from you but when I received the items part of the B section of the tree did not light, my daughter checked the tree n we found that the wires connecting b & a section looked like they were cut or not completely connected. Since then we went out a purchased a set of lights to go on that part of the tree, don't get me wrong the tree is beautiful as well as the other items that were purchased. Could you please let me know what can be done about that section of tree, I have it decorated n won't have time to send it back. Please advise me what to do with tree. I am planning on ordering more things from you after the 1st of the year. In the meantime have a very Merry Xmas n Happy New York.
Sincerely,
Pauline Shannon
