Thoughts on Applebee's and Tips
Mike Siger’s post about Applebee’s is a great example of how you can have a great product - or in this case, a great menu item by a famous chef - but if the service shotty then most likely you won’t buy from the business again. 

My own experience with Applebee’s has been ok.  Just ok.  Nothing to write home about.  Yes, the food was pretty good, but nothing about their service stands out...and I’ve eaten there more than a dozen times.  Even though the service was just ok, I still feel obligated to give a 10-15% tip.  Why is that?

Maria, that's a mystery to me, too. There's a resto that service is not really good, food is okay, but we find ourselves going there from time to time. I guess because at the back of our mind, we hope that the next time we go there, things have improved. Here in Manila, tipping is like obligatory, too. It's added to the bill automatically as service charge. No choice but to pay for it. I've written about that because I think we shouldn't pay for service. That should be part of the package. :)

You're right...Tipping should not be obligatory. Sometimes I feel bad for giving such a small tip, but why should I? The service was minimal, so that is what they should expect..
