Are You a Friend To Your Customer?
According to a sidebar on this article, there are six types of loyalty programs (the source of the information is too small for me to read..sorry!)  One of the six types is “Affinity” - meaning you build a lifetime value relationship with a customer based on mutual interests and not on the use of rewards.  I think that this is probably one of the best types of loyalty program - if you want to call it a “program”.  I like to simply call it being a friend to your customer.

Friendships start off by talking with each other and getting to know
R2 and Maria.jpg the background of a person - where they grew up, their likes and dislikes, favorite sports, etc.  After a conversation or two you start to realize how much you have in common (or not).  Engaging in conversation with your customer isn’t such a bad idea, you know...

One of the managers at Starbucks started a conversation with me not too long ago and we find out that we have a similar interest in online marketing and e-business.  Now we share information via email and have reached a level where I can now call him a “friend”.

Thanks! I've made alot of friends with him around - He's a celebrity at one of my local hangouts. Now the employees know me because of him!
