I decided to re-visit an old neighborhood - a neighborhood I frequented when I first moved to San Diego. Known for its many Filipino restaurants, National City, was calling me today. So I chose to eat at a restaurant I’ve never been in before called “Karihan”, which means “local restaurant” in Tagalog.
Karihan is a most humble restaurant with not-so-modern decor, but very clean. As a sat there eating lunch a woman was sweeping the floor using a Filipino broom. The background music consisted of love ballads sung in my native tongue. For twenty minutes I transcended time and space - taken back to a far-off land where the pace is slow and people mattered.
It was a great experience.
