I have never been one to buy into rebates. After sending off for a $1 rebate on a shampoo I bought from a drug store years ago and never receiving my $1 back, I’ve vowed to never fall for these gimmicks again. Getting a rebate is like trying to pull teeth!
So I can’t imagine what one must feel like trying to wait for a $300 dollar or more rebate to come in the mail from an electronic purchase. I just don’t understand what the deal is with rebates and electronics. Circuit City, CompuUSA and Best Buy are notorious for offering these rebates - or maybe it’s the actual electronic company offering them, I don’t know. All I know is that they don’t make sense. Why can’t I just get my discount right then and there? Why must I go through all this copying, hunting for serial numbers, mounds of paperwork, and then have to submit it before a specified date?
Can someone out there explain this to me?
Well, you may have heard that Dell is cutting back on their rebate offers in the interest of customer service. At least they’re doing something right ;)

I hear you about the whole rebate issue. I feel much the same way. BUT...I'm happy to say that I've had 2 great experiences in the past year.
One was with Office Depot and the other with Circuit City. The Circuit City rebate was almost painless, plus the rebate arrived about 3 weeks sooner than I expected.
Both companies have a great rebate system set up. However, it looks like Circuit City does their own and Office Depot outsources it.
Both provided websites though.
I'd still prefer my discout up front, but I'm no longer totally against rebates.
