The holiday season was crazy-hectic-wild at the Nordstrom store I worked at. To put it in perspective, some of the salesgirls in the handbag department where I worked for a season would sometimes have $10,000+ days. So, as a shopper, wouldn’t you expect a department store to be pretty busy during this time of year?
I remember ringing up a lady who straight out asked me, “Could you please hurry it up a bit? I’m on my lunch break and need to get back.”
As Seth Godin says, there are two things you can say to this person....
"You must be feeling really frustrated." Or "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part..."
Who goes to the mall on their lunch break during the busiest time of the year? With a big smile on my face, I told the lady who was rushing me, “I’m going as fast as I can!” as I slowly wrapped up her purchase.... Ah, yes, sorry - I had a mean streak in me sometimes!
