If you don’t pay a company for a service, are you just a “user” or are you indeed a “customer”? This is the question that comes to mind when I read this little rant about MySpace’s customer service. One person commented, “You don't pay them, you're a user not a customer.” Hmmm...let’s take a look at that definition... The Merriam-Webster dictionary says that a “customer” is “one that purchases a commodity or service”. ![]()
Well, I guess that really isn’t the issue here, but either way you look at it, you’re still dealing with a company who isn’t helping their “users”. And when you have upset “users”, they’re not going to want to use your service anymore. And when more and more “users” find out that your service isn’t up to par, they’ll start finding other venues or forums to gather. And when you don’t have as many users, then you don’t get as much revenue from advertisers...right?
The writer of the rant says this: “...they don’t care because of the popularity they’ve gained...” It’s a shame because I have a feeling that one day someone is going to come up with something even more spectacular than MySpace and those MySpace people will be scratching their heads wondering what happened...It’s called Karma!
On a side note, however, I haven’t had any issues with my account at MySpace...
