Service Untitled has a post about Nordstrom which brought up alot of memories - although at the time I was working there I didn’t realize that it was indeed a great learning experience for me. (Another story in itself!) In retrospect, I look at that time in my life and know now that it was basically free business training. In fact, they paid me to learn from them. My only regret is that I didn’t go through the management training. At the time I didn’t want to work 50+ hours. I had already been down that path and didn’t want that responsibility anymore. (I had plans to start my own business...)
Regardless, I soaked up as much as I could and now I’m here sharing my experience with you! I only wish every person went through the same training that Nordstrom employees go through. As cliche as this may sound, but I think the world would be a better place if everybody went through Nordstrom training!!
One thing I learned that I want to point out here is that my manager always told me that “this is your business too”. We worked on commission, so if you didn’t help the customer you didn’t get paid - just like any business owner. Basically, you had to take ownership of your business and take care of the customers so that they would come back to shop with you. You were a mini-business within the big business and that was the mentality that everyone had. You were given quite a bit of freedom to make your own decisions regarding your business. It was truly empowering.

I was most impressed with the setting and services they have provided me personally at the men's sports wear. The display of garments were very organized and tastefully done.
I also enjoyed meeting the department manager Rosie, ( I was amazed how gracious/ friendly she was to me as a new customer). I never thought I could have such personalble encounter with the Dept. Managers ever at any other stores. That experience sure made a great impression of the management of this particular store.
I would definitely recommand my family and friends to shop with Nordstroms of Santa Anita Arcadia,California.
There is a reason why people prefer to shop at the Department stores that values their customers and services. Nordstroms Arcadia is definitely the place to be. Because service is what I am looking for, I am sure you are looking for the same things in life.
