I was reading this article about how our society has become so numb to mediocre customer service. It’s a given. That’s life, live with it. That seems to be the prevailing attitude and it’s a little disheartening.
Sometimes I wish there was a way to mandate that people go through at least three months of customer service training like Salt River Project, a utility company in Arizona that received the highest rating for customer service by J.D. Power and Associates. Is three months too long for training? I don’t think so. In addition to the intensive training program, SRP associates also receive $13.08 an hour to start.
Which brings me to the subject of whether or not a higher rate of pay has a connection to the quality of service that is provided. Well, I know for me I would be happier with a bigger paycheck, wouldn’t you be? However, on the other hand, I know people who have very generous salaries who are still very unhappy with their life.
I think a company that invests that much money and time to train me plus pays me well deserves my hard-work. I would feel valuable and respected - wouldn't you?
