I’m going to talk about something a little different today. Instead of giving my usual customer service tips to businesses, I will give tips on how to be a good customer...
First I’ll tell you a short story that put a smile on my face today. I was in the grocery store today waiting to pay for my items and there was a lady with her little boy behind me. “Look mom, someone put this here!” He pointed to a little toy that was stuck in between packs of gum. “That’s not cool!”
Which brings me to Tip #1: If you change your mind on something, put it back where you got it. That’s just a personal thing for me. Perhaps it comes from all those times I had to stay late and put back the million things that were out of place.
Tip #2: Be considerate and treat customer service reps with respect. If you’re going to call a company and start your conversation in anger, the rep will immediately become defensive and will express their frustration right back at you. You can be calm and still express your disappointment with their service.
Tip #3: Acknowledge good customer service when you receive it. A simple “Thank you for the great service!” will do. However, what’s even better is writing a letter.
