There's an article at the Chicago Tribune which says that the City Council approved a ordinance that will require big box retailers to pay their employees a minimum of $9.25. This ordinance will apply to stores at 90,000 square feet or more.
Funny thing is - the mayor, Richard Daley was not for this measure and the Illinois Retail Merchants Association is declaring it as unconstitutional. Wha? The President of the Federation of Labor Dennis Gannon said in a statement: "Today's vote sends a message that our elected officials and community members alike are not interested in the creation of low-paying jobs that fail to provide a living wage or adequate health-care benefits for working families."
Who wants to create low-paying jobs? Do these people realize that low paying jobs is the reason that people are unhappy? Have they even considered that the reason customer service is declining in this country is because people are not paid what they're worth? That they have to work two jobs to survive nowadays?
