"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
When you walk into an establishment, do you ever recognize the energy in the air? Could you immediately tell if the people who worked there were happy to be there? Did they seem enthusiastic when they were helping customers?
As a person who tunes into other people's "energy", I notice quickly that my mood changes when I'm in a store that has happy people versus unhappy people. When I'm in a store that has enthusiastic and helpful reps, it spurs my enthusiastic side and in turn, I end up buying something from them even if I don't need it.
On the other hand, when I'm in a store where the reps are huddled around each other complaining about how the day is dragging and the store is dusty and messy, I can tell that there isn't good energy being circulated in there. That signals that it's time for me to leave.
Perhaps we all do this on some subconscious level - tune into the enthusiasm and energy of the people who are helping us. And if you work in customer service and are reading this, think about your energy level when you go into work. Trust me on this - when you're more enthusiastic, you'll automatically be more helpful and the day will go by faster. Oh, and stay far away from your coworkers who are "haters" and will want to rob that energy from you. You know the ones. They complain about customers and they complain about all the work that needs to be done....blah...blah...blah...
