Tom Vander Well asks us if we can think of a great example of leadership and yes, I do have many examples that I can share... But one in particular stands out in my mind. Her name is Alicia Castruita and she was my department manager at Nordstrom. Let's just say that Alicia got "down and dirty" when it came to pitching in to help with whatever needed to be done. When there were tons of customers on the floor, Alicia was out there selling her heart out. When it was time for sales or inventory, Alicia was there with the rest of us helping and motivating to get the job finished. When a customer was "too much" for me to handle, Alicia was by my side to help make sure the customer's needs were met as demanded.
Alicia led by example and I believe that's the way it should be done. Period.
