That's the title that came to me as I typed up this post...and Seth Godin and Fifty Cent was the imagery that followed...
I received a postcard in the mail about home loans, so I called the 800 number listed on the advert that told me to ask for "Bill" at extension such-and-such. So, naturally, I'm thinking that I'm going to talk to a Bill.
"Bill? Oh, Bill is just the generic name we use for those postcards," was the reply I got. "Is there something that I can help you with?"
Hmmmm....
"Uh, no thanks." I hung up.
So, they basically "lied" on their postcard...making me believe that Bill was a real person.
If they're going to lie in their marketing, how am I to know that they won't lie to me later as a customer?
"5% interest rate? Oh, no, that's just a generic figure we give out in the beginning..."
Tell me a compelling story - then I'll give you a call...

that's a great illustration in few words!, great post!
