Today was Memorial Day and to most of us in the U.S., it's another
day off from work. People are out at the beaches and having barbeques...For me, it was a day spent thinking about all those men and women who serve(d) our country. My father is a retired Navy Chief, so this day doesn't go by unnoticed.
These men and women who go off to Iraq are being paid to fight for whatever reason the government says they're over there to do (Don't worry, I'll keep my political opinions out of this). I met a man not too long ago who told me he's back here in the U.S. on disability because his helicopter just got shot down. However, he can't wait to go back.
I asked him why he would want to go back and his reply was "It's my life."
His statement gave me a new-found respect for service and it made me really think about what it truly means to serve.
