Good Ole Fashioned Service
I grew up in a small town in Central California where you could go into the local grocery store and everybody that worked there knew you and called you by name.  They would ask you how you're family was doing, who's going with who to the Sadie Hawkins dance...basically have a conversation with you as if you were family.   I recently went back to visit and nothing has changed in terms of good ole service.

Debra Schmidt, "The Loyalty Leader", talks about old fashioned service and says this:

"...it's easier than ever to exceed customer expectations. In most instances, time-starved customers don't expect your undivided attention. They simply want good, old fashioned service that is delivered by a friendly person."

Debra also offers some good ole fashioned tips.  Here are my favorites:

  • Extend old fashioned courtesies. Say "please" and "thank you" to your customers.
  • Warm up the conversation by taking a few extra minutes to chat with your customers.
  • Demonstrate old fashioned patience when listening to your customer's concerns.
