If you're like me, you probably receive dozens of newsletters and emails a day from businesses. At one time I had over 500 emails in my inbox, which was pretty overwhelming! Some of these businesses that I had signed up to receive updates from were sending emails every day and I just simply could not keep up with them. I just wanted to receive an email once a week versus getting one every day. However, at the time I opted-in to their email list, I was only given one choice: to receive emails when there were any new updates. Apparently, every day was an update...I ended up unsubscribing from their email list completely. If they had given me the option to receive emails less frequently, I would probably have chosen to stay on their list.
I use Yahoo! Groups to communicate with my customers which gives them one of three options:
- Receive individual emails
- Receive messages in one daily digest or
- Don't receive updates via email. Rather, they come to the website when they want to find out what's new regarding my business.
Give your customers options when it comes to receiving communication from you. This puts them in control and you'll have a better chance of keeping customers.

Oh wouldn't it be divine to be given options? ;)
