In the comic section of the Sunday newspaper, there is a cartoon called "Baby Blues" by Rick Kirkmann and Jerry Scott....
In today's cartoon the little boy notices something on his elbow and screams at the top of his lungs, "MOM!!"
He runs to his mom and asks, "What's this? Is it a cut?"
Mom: "Let me see."
Little Boy: "Right here."
Mom: "Here?"
Boy: "No! There! Isn't that blood?"
Mom: "You mean that? I think it's strawberry jam."
Boy: "Oh...Do I get a band-aid anyway?"
This cartoon reminds me of some of the customers you've probably had to deal with. They come to you when something is wrong, but upon discovery that there really isn't anything wrong, still demand your attention anyway. I call them the "Drama Lovers" - people who seek out drama and always want to cause drama. They'll definitely suck the energy from you, that's for sure - if you let them.
This is when you have to put your "Dr. of Psychology" hat on and mentally take yourself out of the situation. Try to understand that this person is probably just having a rough day and seek to find a way to put a smile on their face. All they want is attention anyways. So, give it to them. Show them some love....and they may love you back :)
