A Definition of Service - First In a Series

I'm starting a series called "A Definition of Customer Service" where business owners give us their definition of customer service and share their secrets to customer service success.

The first definition comes from our very own Dan Smith here at Know More Media.  I had a feeling he would be the first one to offer his definition as he is quite the speedy responder :)

Dan's definition of customer service is...

"My definition of service is making someone happy. I think if your service is not making someone happy or improving their life or making life easier for them, then it's not service.
At Know More Media, our customer is the reader, and I believe the way we provide them excellent customer service is by offering a quality product, ie expert information and advice. Also, we respond to any reader questions, comments, and inquiries in a respectful, timely fashion. We also try to make it easy for a reader to find and access information on the blog, subscribe to the blog, and participate in the blog through comments and conversation. We are always seeking ways to improve the customer experience on our blogs.

I also feel I personally have another customer--the authors. I try to make the authors' jobs easier for them by providing the proper tools and tips to succeed in writing, blogging, and promoting. I address all author concerns quickly and thoroughly. I try to make myself as accessible as possible to our authors, to make their life easier. I try to provide authors with fun contests and a work culture that will bring satisfaction to their lives."
I can certainly vouch for everything that Dan says here!  Because of Dan I am a Know More Media evangelist :)

Thanks, Maria! I'm looking forward to seeing more posts in this series--should be interesting to hear others' points of view on service. I worked in retail for a time, where customer service is of utmost importance if you want to succeed over the long run.
