"You're gonna have to serve somebody"
-Bob Dylan
When I first started writing for this blog, I talked about the idea that, in essence, we all perform some type of service in the work that we do. Whether you're a construction worker, a nurse, or an electrical engineer, you're doing something that is going to benefit someone else (and hopefully it'll benefit you as well!)
Well, what I'm beginning to realize is that if you're not doing something you love, your whole attitude towards the work that you do is not one of love and passion. Sounds like a love affair, huh?
However, my theory on why people provide poor customer service and why service is declining in this world is this lack of love and passion for their job and just a love for people in general. Great customer service begins and ends with love.
Think of that one thing you love to do...the one thing you put your hear and soul into...Are you smiling yet? Well, if you're not doing doing what you love...why aren't you doing it right now - this minute?
You see, more and more people are settling for less than what they want. These people are not following their dreams and you may be one of these people. Instead, you're forced to settle for a job that you don't enjoy because you think that you can't get anything better. So, you stay at your current position, but eventually begin to feel undervalued. This feeling then leads to resentment and anger, thus the poor customer service situation.
So, find something that you love to do....and follow that dream with full force. Find a job that you'll look forward to going to every day and that simply makes you smile! Pretty soon it won't even feel like you're working in "service" - when in actuality you are....
