Yesterday I received a piece of miscellaneous mail. I say "miscellaneous" because I know that people have put effort in these advertising materials and I don't want to undermine their profession. Anyhow, on the front of the brochure was a basketball. I was inclined to open it because basketball is my favorite sport and I was simply curious to see what this company had to offer.
Inside the brochure was a heading titled Services. Naturally, I read that section first and a line in the first paragraph made me chuckle:
"Bodog employs knowledgeable, sport-savvy, North American-born customer service representatives who are all excellent communicators."
Now, the first question that came to mind is, "How is Bodog going to determine whether or not a prospective customer service rep is born in North America or not?" This is assuming that Bodog is headquartered in the USA, which I find out later is not because they're an online gambling website - a business that's illegal here in the U.S. But that's beside the point...
My point here is, why is it such a concern for people to be helped by customer service reps based in the U.S. or North America, for that matter? Who's to say that someone in the U.S. is more knowledgeable or has better communication skills than someone overseas? Most people are complaining that customer service is dead here in the U.S., so why not give someone in India or Brazil a chance to offer phenomenal service?
