Proverb
Through the CRM Mastery E-Journal I learned about Tom Peters, the business guru who Fortune compares to Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, and H.L. Mencken. Tom Peters has a manifesto called 111 Ridiculously Obvious Thoughts on Selling. Since selling and customer service go hand-in-hand, I thought it fitting to share it with you. You can download the manifesto here. These are my top ten favorite thoughts:
1. Great Listeners Are Great Salespeople
2. Are you a great (not merely "good") presenter?
3. The point is not to "prove" yourself (That's ego talk) Let the best person present to the client
4. The numbers will more or less take care of themselves over the long haul - if the relationship(s) is/are solid gold
5. Never stop growing-broadening-deepening the relationship. The so called "selling process" is only the first step!
6. "Little People" often have BIG FRIENDS
7. Never, ever dump on a competitor
8. He/she who has the most-best relationships wins. Relationships are the essence of the work of the salesperson. The hard...and long...work of the salesperson.
9. "Thank you" notes: World's highest-return investment!
10. Hire for enthusiasm. Promote for enthusiasm. Cherish enthusiasm. Remove non-enthusiasts - they are cancers.
