We live in a "What's-In-It-For-Me" type of society where many of our
interests are centered around personal benefit versus being outwardly focused, or thinking about the community benefit. It reminds me of toddler days when you're constantly saying, "Mine! Mine!"
As we grow up, most of us still hold onto that mentality of "Mine! Mine!" and we go into service jobs with that same mindset...only thinking about the paycheck and pretty much just going through the motions. I saw this last night in the grocery store as the bagger was staring off into space with a glazed look in her eyes as I walked by. She did say, "Have a great night" in a robotic, monotonous tone.
Snap out of it, I say!
Am I just old school, or does this saying not exist anymore? "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you."
What about sharing? Are we not teaching our kids to share anymore?
