I recall paying a visit to a friend's restaurant to catch a bite to eat where most of the workers are quite young - some still in high school, I believe. My friend wasn't there, but some of the workers were outside shooting the breeze and carrying on with their friends.
Jokingly I said to them, "I'm going to tell Basil on you!" They had no idea who I was, but the moment they heard my friend's name, they froze and rushed back into the restaurant. I didn't mean to scare them. For all I knew they could have been on a break....
Recently I asked my friend how the restaurant business was going and he told me, "Not so good."
I speculate that it's probably due to the hiring of young kids to work for him. I'm not saying that all young kids don't know how to give great service, but many of them aren't mature enough yet to even want to understand what service is.

" In the service sector, standards of good customer service and efficiency should be uphold at all costs, given that we consumers are footing the bill in exchange for the goods and services we need. And yet, we have to endure looking at these teenagers making a din behind the counter and engaging in childish, prank-like activities. If teenagers were allowed to grow up with such a mentality, what would happen to our top-notch tourism and service sector within the next ten to twenty years when our generation would be at the forefront of the working community?"
