Please, Can I Have a Half Portion?
Here's a little tidbit for you....Consumer Specialist by the name of investigator.gifAngie Lau went "undercover" to expose bad customer service.  She reported an experience in a restaurant where she requested a half order of an entree, but the waitress refused to honor her request.  This was the waitress's response:

"I guess last summer there was a big discrepancy. I had a couple who asked me if they could do half-portions and I went in the kitchen and I turned and walked right out because I got yelled at for even asking."

Oh, c'mon, did she really get yelled at?  Puh-lease.  If I got yelled at by my boss for asking a simple question, do you think I would still be working there?  Who wants to work for someone who yells at you?

Anyhow, I don't think it's such a big deal to give a customer a half-portion, especially if the portions are big to begin with.  If you make the customer pay for the full portion, he/she may not even eat all of it and the food may just end up in the garbage.  Big waste.  And think about all the other starving people in the world....
