I know that there are many unscrupulous Ebay sellers out there and I often wonder how they are able to stay in business for so long. Many of them get by selling knockoff purses - and I know this because I wound up with a couple of them. This was in the early days of Ebay and didn't really know what to do. Anyhow...
John Waddy gives a few great tips for "aspiring powersellers":
1. Be honest
This is rule number one for all businesses, not just Ebay sellers!
2. Give a customer a way to get out of a transaction
You want customers to always have a pleasant experience with you. Give them a break if they change their minds - wouldn't you want the same treatment?
3. Customers usually don't look at your customer service policy until something goes wrong, so it is your job to highlight it.
4. Reward customers that give genuine feedback.
5. Personalize your experience, give your customers your telephone number and e-mail, so they can easily access you.
And my favorite tip...
6. Do not get so big that you cannot apologize, give a refund, overlook an unsatisfied customer, etc.
