This is a question that Steve Lohr of The New York Times asks in an
article published today titled Academia Dissects the Service Sector, but Is It a Science?
Awhile ago I mentioned the idea of having customer service classes in universities....Well, it looks like the ball is rolling because schools like UC Berkeley, Arizona State, Stanford, North Carolina State, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Georgia Tech are experimenting with programs in this field called "Services Science". People in the arena of education are beginning to take notice that a high percentage of jobs now are in the service sectors.
Well, it's about time, don't ya' think?
There is skepticism surrounding the idea of service being a "science", but that's what happened when psychology and computer sciences first came about.
Service is an art....and a science...
